New Iron On Embroidery Pattern Collections now available

Today I'm so excited to share a quick shop announcement. Two more SeptemberHouse embroidery pattern collections are now available in iron-on transfer format. Happy Houseplants and Il Circo are now on the shop shelves!

Happy Houseplants features mix and match patterns so you can create fun combinations of flower pots and greenery. There are over 200 different possible combinations!

In addition to the mix and match patterns there are three more patterns included as well. This collection is going to keep any stitcher busy!

Il Circo is a SeptemberHouse favorite. It's been off the shelf for a while as it received an upgrade but now it's back in Iron-on format.

This collection is inspired by vintage Italian Circus trains. Included in the set is a circus train engine and three additional train car designs. These can be stitched in a row or framed individually.

There is a lot of room for customization with this collection - use whichever cars you like in your project and put them in any order you like. Two more circus themed patterns are included as well.

You can find these iron-on pattern collections at SeptemberHouse on Etsy or over at Handmade Amazon. If you need more than one set of patterns don't forget the 2 for $13 option. Thanks for taking a peek at these new offerings today!

Exciting Needle News

Needle Minders by SeptemberHouse

Hello! It's been a wild summer and as we turn a corner into autumn I am so excited to be able to share something brand new with you. Introducing Needle Minders by SeptemberHouse! Four exclusive designs have made their way to the shop shelves this week and they are ready to make your life easier.

Needle Nanny for hand Embroidery

If you haven't used a needle minder before here is a little overview of how they work:
Each needle minder (also called a needle keeper or a needle nanny) has two parts.

Needle Keeper for hand Embroidery

There is a decorative piece that sits on the top side of your fabric. It has a magnet on the back side of it. A second magnet is used on the underside of your fabric. Together these two pieces connect and stay situated on your fabric as you work. When you need to take a break from your project simply rest your needle on the needle minder and the magnet will keep it in place until you are able to start stitching again.

Modern Embroidery Supplies

So, do you need a needle minder to embroider? Well, no. I didn't use one for years. One day I decided to make a simple (and ugly) one just to see how I liked it and was hooked from there. Oh my gosh, I have lost countless needles over the years in couch cushions, on the floor and heaven knows where else. It probably wouldn't bother me so much if it was just me who might accidentally "find" those wayward needles but I do feel awful when my husband, kids or my poor cat stumble upon them. A needle minder eliminates that guilt (yay).

Here is another benefit - if you are used to poking your needle in and out of your fabric to secure
it in place while you stepped away from your project then you know how ugly those needle holes can be. A needle minder leaves no holes in your fabric and is an easy tool to stash away in your sewing box. (I keep mine on a file cabinet where they look so cute while they wait to be called up for another mission).

Needle Minders by SeptemberHouse

My top priorities when I took these on, was to create a useful tool that is durable and looks great. I went with a bold graphic style and rich colors which make these particularly striking. These are professionally printed - not made of shrink plastic or resin. Additionally they are only available at SeptemberHouse - not made with mass market products like buttons or cabochons.

Watch for a giveaway coming soon to So September where you can win one of these beauties!

Find these new needle minders and other patterns and supplies from SeptemberHouse in my shop on Etsy or Amazon. Thanks so much for checking these out!!

vacation whaaaatttt??

I can hardly believe it myself but it's true - we actually took a family vacation this summer. A week-long escape from the everyday. Well, not a complete escape - I brought embroidery along of course.

There was a LOT of driving but with the help of screens, embroidery, audio books, some nice scenery, novelty, peanut butter filled pretzels and good company, we all did surprising well in that car for all those miles.

We started our adventure in Estes Park Colorado where we met up with more family. The photo above shows the view driving into Estes and it gets better as you drive on, believe it or not. Wow what a place.

After enjoying a few days with family and hiking a bit through the mountains we said good-bye to Colorado and headed to South Dakota where we stopped to see these four friends.

The last day of the trip was spent in Badlands National Park which, like Colorado, is breathtaking.

If you have kids that love to climb and jump around it is also a really fun place to visit (and also a little scary when you see some of the steep drop offs and signs warning of rattlesnakes in the area).

I spent most of my time clicking and clicking away with the camera knowing all along that no picture I could take would really capture the beauty here.

It was good to get away and it was good to come home but what I am most grateful for was the time spent with family and the chance to see even just a small portion of the unbelievable natural wonders this country has to offer.

2017 Christmas Ornament Roundup

Baby's First Christmas Ornament Personalized Snowman Ornament by SeptemberHouse

It's hard to believe it's already time to share 2017 Christmas Ornaments but here we are! There are a couple of new guys and some old favorites in the mix this year - ready to take a peek?

First is the new snowbaby ornament shown above. This little guy features some bold colors and a super cute design that works for both girls or boys.

Baby's First Christmas Ornament Personalized Elephant Ornament by SeptemberHouse

Next is a re-design of the Elephant Pull Toy ornament. I try to update this one every year and this year I decided to go with a more gender neutral design. The background on this one has a delicate and subtle pattern and the tiny tassel was added to give a new 3-D feature (love those!).

Baby's First Christmas Ornament Personalized Polar Bear Ornament by SeptemberHouse

The polar bear ornament HAD to come back this year - it was the most popular design from 2016.

Baby's First Christmas Ornament Personalized Penguin Ornament by SeptemberHouse

This cute little guy/gal is all set to waddle into the Holiday Season as well.

Baby's First Christmas Ornament Personalized Deer Ornament by SeptemberHouse

And I had to bring back my 'deer' friend - this one was my personal favorite from 2016!

The engraved frames are back this year too - I don't think I could go back to hoops, I love these too much. I also have plain and engraved frames available for DIYers!

Announcing, "Solar Flair"

Solar System Planets Embroidery pattern for hand embroidery by SeptemberHouse

It's been too long since I have posted here but I can assure you that I have NOT fallen off the face of the earth... or wait, have I?

Solar Flair Space Embroidery Patterns for Hand Embroidery by SeptemberHouse

From the looks of this new pattern collection one might think just that. I'm calling this new set "Solar Flair" and as you have surely guessed it is inspired by outer space and all the wonder and mystery to be found there.

Astronaut Embroidery Pattern Space Embroidery by SeptemberHouse

The space bug has bitten me pretty hard lately. Between the discovery of brand new planets, to a dear friend venturing closer to the stars than anyone I have ever known, to a new obsession with Ray Bradbury, setting my sights beyond this planet has been one of my favorite pastimes of 2017.

I don't know about you but in the past few months I have sought ways to step back and try to gain some perspective and to see a bigger picture. Is there any better place to find that than by gazing at the stars?  It seemed only natural to pull out the sketchbook and the flossbox to see where this latest preoccupation would take me.

Rocket Embroidery Pattern Space Theme Embroidery by SeptemberHouse

Where it took me is what you see here. Four new designs to be stitched up for friend or for your very own stellar self. I kept it pretty straightforward and framed these up in hoops but I love the idea of using these to embellish pillows and totebags. I also think they might be a fun addition to a space themed nursery or kid's room.

Thanks so so much for taking a peek at these new patterns. I hope your next embroidery project takes you beyond your wildest dreams!

New Iron On Embroidery Patterns from SeptemberHouse

Stitches Del Sol Mexican inspired Hand Embroidery Iron on Transfer Patterns

Iron on transfers may be one of the most traditional transfer methods for hand embroidery but they are also one of the most popular. They make transferring your design to your fabric so easy and so clear. For some, it's the only method they trust. That's why I am so excited to say that two more SeptemberHouse pattern sets are now available as iron on transfers.

The two new sets are the Stitches Del Sol Collection - a vibrant folk-style set of Mexican-inspired designs and Holiday Special - a mix of the most popular Christmas designs from three different pattern collections.

Also new to the shop is a special 2 for $13 option for Iron On Transfers. It's a savings of more than 15% with no additional shipping costs.

Cozy up with a good book

Hello! Here we are in the deep dark heart of Winter (unless you are lucky enough to be somewhere in the southern hemisphere - yes I AM jealous). As I walked back from the mailbox this morning every part of me that was not covered was screaming to go back inside. These are the days when the wind is actually painful.

The good news is that this is also a GREAT time of year to cozy up with some good reads. I want to share one with you today called "Boho Embroidery: Modern Projects from Traditional Stitches" by Nichole Vogelsinger. First for a disclosure - one of the patterns from my Booksmart pattern set makes a small cameo in this book and Nichole was nice enough to say some really sweet things about it as she wrote about seeking out meaningful patterns for your projects. Thanks Nichole! But today I want to share some of the OTHER reasons I loved this book.

The ideas here are bright and fresh and one cannot help but be cheered just looking at them. Anyone who loves fabric and pattern will enjoy flipping through these pages as their creative wheels start turning. This book will make you look at your fabric stash in a whole new light.

Are you someone who loves to embroider but you are not always sure what to do with your embroidery projects - how to frame them in new ways or turn them into a unique gift? This book has plenty of inspiration for you. Good news guys - there are so many more options than just the round wooden hoop!

I often hear from people who tell me that they are picking up hand embroidery again after having not done it for years. They are looking for a refresher on the basics as well as ideas for projects that go beyond traditional applications and motifs. For those people I cannot recommend this book enough. Nichole looks at hand embroidery with a fresh vision that is displayed beautifully in this book. Go on, check it out!
